About Echo
Echo is an independent app, not a platform feature. It exists because the fans who watch Korean livestreams were being served by translators that had never heard of the people on screen.
Who makes Echo
Echo is designed and built by Ben Shih, publishing as BS Studio. Support is answered directly by the developer at bs-studio-support@proton.me — there is no ticket queue and no outsourced help desk.
Why it exists
Most of Echo's users are Chinese-speaking K-pop fans in Taiwan, mainland China, Hong Kong and Korea, watching Korean livestreams that will never be subtitled. Fan translations arrive hours later, and general-purpose translators mangle the names fans care most about. Echo was built around that one problem: live captions, fast, with the names right.
How it works, briefly
- Audio mode captures another app's sound through Apple's Screen Broadcast and captions it in a floating overlay.
- Screen mode translates text already on your display.
- Around Me captions nearby speech through the microphone.
- A ~770-term K-pop glossary pins idol, group and fandom names across all three modes.
- On-device speech and translation are used where supported, with Microsoft Azure AI Speech & Translator as fallback.
What we will not do
- Sell your captions, audio or message content.
- Require an account to use the free tier.
- Bypass DRM or app protections to capture audio.
