Everything fans ask most often about Echo — how the three modes work, what is free, what a Day Pass includes, and what happens to your audio.
Answers, before you ask.
What devices does Echo run on?
iPhone and iPad running iOS 26 or later. Screen Broadcast and the floating caption overlay need a physical device — they do not run in the Simulator.
Which languages does Echo support?
The app interface and translation targets are English, 简体中文 and 繁體中文, with Korean as the main source language for livestream use. Traditional and Simplified Chinese are separate targets, not a conversion.
What is the difference between Audio, Screen and Around Me mode?
Audio mode captions another app's sound through iOS Screen Broadcast. Screen mode translates text already on your display, such as Bubble messages. Around Me captions nearby speech through the microphone.
How much is free?
5 minutes of translation every day, all features, no account required.
What does Echo Plus cost?
Echo Plus is a subscription with weekly, monthly and yearly options; the weekly plan includes a 3-day free trial. The App Store shows your local price before you confirm.
What is a Day Pass?
A one-time purchase giving 90 minutes of translation valid for 24 hours from activation. It is consumable, it does not auto-renew, and unused minutes expire.
Is there a fair use limit?
Unlimited plans are subject to a fair use ceiling of 5 hours of translation per day.
Does my audio leave my phone?
When your device and language pair support it, Echo uses Apple's on-device speech and translation and the audio never leaves your phone. For pairs on-device cannot handle, Echo falls back to Microsoft Azure AI Speech & Translator, which is used only to return the requested translation.
Where is my translation history stored?
Locally on your device. You can review, copy or share captions, and delete everything in one tap.
Why do idol names come out right in Echo?
Echo ships a K-pop glossary of roughly 770 terms — official idol names, group names and fandom vocabulary — pinned to correct spellings instead of being re-romanised sentence by sentence.
Why did captions stop mid-stream?
Usually the daily free allowance ran out, or iOS ended the Screen Broadcast. Restart the broadcast from Echo, or start an Echo Plus trial or Day Pass for a longer session.
Can Echo translate protected or DRM audio?
No. Some apps and protected media block or mute capture through Screen Broadcast, and Echo does not bypass those restrictions.
