How to watch a Korean livestream without speaking Korean

Fan translation threads are wonderful and they are also hours late. If you want to be present — reacting, commenting, understanding the joke while it is still funny — the translation has to happen while the idol is speaking.
This is the short version of a setup that works on an iPhone or iPad running iOS 26 or later.
Before the stream starts
- Charge the device. Live captioning plus video is not a light workload.
- Use headphones if you are in a noisy room, or plan to use Around Me mode if the sound is coming from a speaker.
- Open Echo once beforehand and grant the microphone and Screen Broadcast permissions, so you are not tapping through prompts while the live starts.
The three-tap setup
- 1
Choose your mode
Audio for a stream you are listening to, Screen for text on your display, Around Me for sound in the room.
- 2
Set the language pair
Korean as the source, then English, 简体中文 or 繁體中文 as your reading language. Traditional and Simplified are separate targets, not one Chinese option.
- 3
Turn on the floating overlay
The picture-in-picture window keeps captions on top once you switch back to the stream. This requires a physical device — it does not run in the Simulator.
What to expect from live captions
Live translation is fast but not instantaneous — captions land a beat behind the speech, the way broadcast subtitles do. Overlapping voices, heavy background music and shouting all reduce accuracy, which is a limitation of speech recognition rather than of translation.
What Echo does guarantee is that idol names, group names and fandom vocabulary stay intact, because they are handled by a glossary rather than left to the model.
How much you can watch for free
The free tier includes 5 minutes of translation every day with all features and no account. That covers a Bubble check or a teaser. For a full live, Echo Plus Weekly starts with a 3-day free trial, and the Day Pass gives you 90 minutes valid for 24 hours as a one-time purchase.
Answers, before you ask.
Does Echo work offline?
No. Translation runs through a cloud provider, so a live connection is required.
Is my audio stored?
Audio and screen text are sent for processing and are not retained on our servers after the translation is returned.
